"INTERACTING IN MADRID"

Teaching and learning strategies using games and drama activities

Objectives

At the end of the course participants will have extended their repertoire of teaching and learning strategies and will have a resource of games and drama activities which will contribute to the development of pupils thinking skills and personal capabilities and personal development in line national strategies and curriculum.

Methodology

Within each course several options will be offered as listed under Areas Covered by the course. The training will be delivered thorugh a variety of plenary sessions, seminars and workshops.
Icebreakers and introductions, group work, building confidence, improving communication skills, developing dialogues, scene building, characterisation, story telling, bringing literature alive, language theatre sports and working with your voice.

PROGRAMME OF THE TRAINING ACTIVITIES (DAY BY DAY)

  • Apart from Day One, Training takes place from 9.30 to 5 each day with a one hour break for lunch.
  • The Final hour of each day is devoted to evaluation, review and updating the MOODLE.
  • The Day One, Reception, an evening event of orientation and welcome, modelling on MOODLE and introducing Crazy Face software.
  • Day Two, Icebreaking Activities and Warm Ups. Getting to know each other. The first days' activities focus on creating a safe environment.
  • Day Three, From action to words and back. Exploring through games the variety and impact of the relationship between experience and its expression. Areas of work include non verbal communication
  • Day Four, Building blocks for dialogues. Strategies to improve the speed and skills in listening and vocal production. Here we connect games which sharpen oral presentational skills with diverse areas of curriculum.
  • Day Five, Scene Building. Working towards tentative structures to bring together skills sharpened in the previous days of training. Games that bring discipline and form to experience. An example of an Interacting theatre show.
  • Day Six, The stories we live by. Bringing techniques of storytelling to relevant subject matter. Working on how to apply creative solutions to diverse areas of curriculum. Working with Crazy Talk software. Evaluation and review.
